Beginning Wood Turning

Students will get hands-on experience using the basic lathe tools. The primary focus is technique – learning the basics of spindle turning and tool sharpening. The class concludes with a bowl turning demonstration. Please bring lathe chisels and safety glasses if you have them.

Bottle Stopper Turning

Students will learn how to cut stopper blanks, drill and mount the blanks on a lathe, turn the stopper and apply the finish. The final step will be assembling the stopper. Each student will complete 2 stoppers during the class. Please bring lathe chisels and safety glasses if you have them.

Bowl Turning

This course is designed for the beginning or intermediate turner who wants to get a better handle on bowl turning. Topics covered will include wood selection, preparation, mounting options, tool selection, sharpening, power sanding and finishing. Each student will complete a bowl during the class. Please bring lathe chisels and safety glasses if you have them.

Pen Turning

Students will learn how to cut pen blanks, drill and mount the blanks on a lathe, turn the pen barrels and apply the finish. The final step will be assembling the pen. Each student will complete a pen during the class. Please bring lathe chisels and safety glasses if you have them.

Peppermill Turning

A pepper mill is a great gift you can make by woodturning. Learn how to create and assemble a classic pepper mill. During this full-day session, we will discuss design ideas, the preparation of the wood and tool selection, ultimately progressing to turning a 12″ pepper mill from maple stock.
